The conference will be held on the campus of Oklahoma State University in Tulsa on July 26-27. This year’s event features an outstanding line-up of national and area presenters who will bring valuable information that will help you implement both Project Management and Knowledge Management in your organization.
The first day of the conference is anchored by Project Management Institute Global Board Member Diane White. Diane is a past-president of the Tampa PMI Chapter. She will speak on “Project Management as a Strategic Competency.” Her visit to Tulsa for KPM 2011 is being sponsored by the Tulsa PMI chapter.
The second day will begin with a presentation on establishing tangible value for Knowledge Management by Phil Barnett, Managing Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Tampa. Phil is responsible for establishing the PwC Knowledge Services Organization. He will also host a round table discussion with area executives on the topic.

KPM GENERAL INFORMATION
The Knowledge and Project Management Symposium (KPM) is an annual event held in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area that is dedicated to finding real-world synergies between the evolving discipline of Knowledge Management and the projects within an organization. The conference is presented by KIPA and hosted by one of our university partners. Knowledge Management is intended to create repeatable, formal processes to discover, capture, organize, transfer, use and retain vital data, information and decision-making required to conduct the work of an organization.
While some approach Knowledge Management as a stand-alone effort or as a means of organizing bibliographical data, the KPM Symposium explores ways to leverage naturally occurring projects, initiatives and special assignments that exist in any thriving organization. Each of these projects work use or create organizational knowledge and may be mined to support a larger KM effort. The KPM Symposium provides a balance of current academic research with proven strategies from industry. Speakers from both worlds are invited to present their findings. Attendees come from the private and public sector. These organizations are both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations from across the region.
The KPM Symposium was founded on a relationship between The University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University and the University of Tulsa. The three institutions alternate hosting the annual event, making it possible to keep registration fees low. We owe tremendous appreciation to our university partners and their respective faculty contributors. Our university partners are joined by several professional societies as KPM Affiliates. The affiliates include both the Tulsa Chapter of the Project Management Institute and the Tulsa Chapter the American Society of Development and Training.
NEW KM BOOKS
A new book titled “Convergence of Project Management and Knowledge Management” was released the fall of 2010. The book is edited and compiled by Dr. T. Kanti Srikantaiah, a frequent KPM attendee and speaker. The book includes a chapter written by KPM chairs Chuck Tryon and Dr. Suliman Hawamdeh on “Project-Based Knowledge Management.” The book is available through the usual outlets.
An new book titled “Managing Organizational Knowledge: 3rd Generation Knowledge Management … and Beyond” has been written by KPM co-chair and moderator, Chuck Tryon. That book will be published by Taylor and Francis and is set for a Fall 2011 release.
